This is true happiness - the happiness you only find loving and serving the Lord - in what ever capacity you can. Yes - you too can experience this type of happiness -- drink in it, then go ask the Savior what change you can make to have this happiness! It's that simple -- let that desire burn in you and watch the miracles, open to you! Its sure to make you have the same smile as these sisters!

hello family! my heart is full today and i was very aware of your prayers this week... i really has felt like a whole another mission this past transfer and a lot of growing has been had. and still needs to happen. haha. its very different needless to say. this week, us missionaries started a mutual program in the ward. im pretty sure its the first one in thailand? the chiang mai branch wants to be the example for thailand so we figured we'd get them started with  a mutual program. they cant say mutual so its "mutuan" haha. we played water balloon waterballoon volleyball (you'd be proud mom) and got them pumped up for Duty to God and Personal Progress. and of coourse rootbeer floatss (also foreign to them). the youth are awesome here and LOVED it, hopefully theyll start bringing their friends. and im so grateful for all the leaders setting up youth activities growing up. seriously thank you ALLL, so much more work than i thought haha. sunday was so fun, i translated in Primary. there is a white family from florida that just moved in and their son is a twin of baby scotty. no joke. for some reason i felt like i needed the CTR rings grandma sent me, and guess what the lesson was about?? choosing the right! the kids loved them. its super humbling to not understand a 5 year thai boy hahah. some days i feel like i uunderstand most things, than the next day im asking my companion to repeat everything. always praying. LOVE YOU ALLLLLLLL

Baptism's! Miracles happening! 

Jenn hit her 6th Month mark! She celebrated with a McDonald McFlurry - they deliver!  She also had to take a grueling train ride to Bangkok (7 hours away) to renew visas. This looks like a picture we have of when she got her wisdom teeth out -- must be that painful of a trip. She said Bangkok is MUCH hotter then Chiang Mai, and not near as many tourist, so the people in Bangkok we're very fascinated by her.  I guess... with that look on her face!!!  Ha! Don't you just love it!!  She will probably be transferred soon, so taking in as much as she can with beautiful Chiang Mai and grateful for every moment she is there. The part she loves the most is how the people are embracing the new knowledge of our Savior. And, the gift of the Holy Ghost. The sacrifices these beautiful people make to have the Savior's restored gospel in there lives is amazing to her.  No one has 'days' off' in this country - they work 7 days a week - so to take time off for Church is a huge sacrifice, in so many levels.  So many have so little, yet radiate so much joy and gratitude.

family family family! sorry the email is coming so late, I kinda got sick and making time to email was rough. im pretty sure it was some sort of heat exhaustion?? fasting+inviting all day in the hot sun will get cha haha. but no worries, all is well! and we found a great family out of it:) im definitely feeling the hot season beginning to start.... not sure im ready for this hahh soo sweaty. its so funny thai people are terrified of the sun  so they wear huge coats and face mask things to hide from it. being tan whatsoever is really ugly i guess?

 this week has been awesome though, lots of personal growth and realizing some major internal "roots". for example; we came to the realization that im really good at helping my companion reach her goals and our companionship goals, but i forget to focus on mine. or even make enough time to think about myself in that sense. this has explained so much. like my whole life actually ha. major "ah-ha" moments happening here. i love missionary work because its not focused on you personally at all, but it is SO important to be constantly striving and accomplishing goals so we can be better instruments in hleping the people here come unto Christ. this week will be rough because sister sorge really wants to focus on me.. wish me luck.

ive really seen the Atonement in action personally this week, many "breaking me down" moments and letting the Savior build me back up.  I was reading in Mosiah 24:12-15 (READ IT EVERYONE!) and it hit my heart so strongly. " And I will ease the burdens which are put on your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them on your back... I the Lord God do visit my people in their afflictions" How true this is, i literally felt this peace come over me and boost to keep on going. Im so grateful for the scriptures, God is literally talks to us what makes me even more happy?? When my investigators come to the same realization!!!!!!! back flips. Wow and her daughter (they remind me of the Gilmore Girls, but thai and way cooler) understand this! Once the investigator understands personal revelation through prayer, scripture study, and church attendance we missionaries have nothing to worry about. they see how PERSONAL the gospel is and will do anything to feel of the Holy Ghost. ive never seen anyone so excited to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. so amazing. we actually moved up their baptismal date because they want to get in the water so badly. AND moved up Dom and Bang's baptism (another mother daughter powerhouse)!! we were teaching them and i felt like alright if i left right now id be fine, these people are so prepared. and its even cooler because we get to find more and more everyday. i feel so little in this noble work, but i know the Lord us everyday.

FAMILY!  Jan 29^th, 2012
Soo I’m in the last transfer with my trainer and the work is on fire!! She is leaving in 4 weeks and I cant believe it. Its awesome cuz she has an entire mission under her belt full of experiences and knowledge, and now living with sister supansa who is also going home in a few months.  My 6 month mark is happening in a few weeks? WHAK. That freaks me out, so much is happening and NEEDS to happen. Hence the "we are sprinting." its awesome what we can get done in just a day, our prayers are getting answered and our goals are getting reached. we have been talking about that and seeing all the miracles happen and it comes back to consecrating yourself to the Lord and doing HIS work HIS work. its been a roller coaster that’s for sure but im happy im learning these things now, not at the end of my mission. I’m still in awe at how little we are in the work. God is willing to send us the amazing blessings if we just ask! and work hard and have faith (duhsies). we found 2 families this week that are way prepared. im so blessed to be meet so many "golden investigators." its so fun living with 3 other sisters, President Smith says he wants me "crossed trained" with a thai. hahah so cool, i love her. is this real life? thank you for your prayers, i feel them errryday.

hello family! this has been such a fun week. lots of growth has been happening (umm story of my mission) but at the same time its been FUN. the mission opened another sister area in Chiang Mai so we now have another set of sistas! helllo party. one is a greenie (knew her at the MTC, she rocks) and her trainer is my MTC teacher's litter sister. DREAMMM!!!!! seriously, answer to prayers to be living with a native speaker who also is SO willinging to help me and is related to my dream teacher. not to mention  life of the party, its been too fun i think? ha life is soo good. today we got up at 4 and watched the sunrise on top of this mountain at a buddhist wat. is this real life? Its the same world im living in but everything is so much more beautiful with Christ at the center.  Im really the happiest i have ever been, despite the HUGGGEEE language barrier that makes most tasks quite difficult and lots of confused looks. but its doesn’t matter, it is NOT stopping the work! That is for sure. Since I’ve been here we've been really praying and focusing on people who are ready to hear our message and ITS HAPPENING!! We have taught lessons this week of people just walking into the church saying they want to learn about Jesus. um whak thought that only happening in brazil or something?  I read this talk that has changed my mission outlook and really illustrates consecration so well, something we've been working for.  I feel like im on the sidelines of the most beautiful miracles happening; seeing people's hearts change as they let Christ in. They don't have years of membership in the Church or weird ideas about Mormons, and they let Christ in as soon as they open their hearts. I’m learning so much from these beautiful people! I feel so blessed to be apart of this huge work, I love you all, more than I can say!

Monks Everywhere!

For our Christmas Phone Call we had everyone but Scott on video Skype. It was so amazing -- we could see everyone so clear! She loves the food! She is bike riding like never before. She's had one "mishap", but talks about how crazy the drivers are - no rules on the roads, yet she is amazed how safe she feels. How sweet the people are and how giving. She is teaching Advanced English classes twice a week.  No one has "days off", and such hard workers - 7 days a week.  All their teaching is done on the floor. She has been invited into home where all they had was a bare mattress on the floor, and they still offered her water and fruit. People are so poor and live in filthy conditions, don't have food in their cupboards, not even a sink in their house, yet they are always happy.  
Her area is HUGE!  They are a 7 hour drive North of Bangkok. There are two sets of Elders, and the Sisters. The branch has about 100 people.  She's getting use to the heat, humidity, but the people there wear coats and pants all the time cause it is the "cold season". 
Oddly enough P-Days in the mission field are busier then in the MTC! (This last week we received an e-mail with all of 4-5 sentences.) 
We we're able to connect Jenn and Scott on Christmas night. Jenn via skype calling, and Scott on the phone. We laid the phone down on the computer speaker, and they just screamed, and laughed, and we're soooo glad to hear each other's voice.  Scott is struggling, and Jenn was able to encourage him. They laughed, asked so many questions of each other, but mostly just thrilled to hear each other's voice. We felt so honored to be listening to them connect and share so much. 
Jenn is so thrilled to be where she is, and so loving sharing and teaching about the Savior. They have lots of families they are teaching, and keep very busy.  
The hardest part of the whole family Skype was having to say good by. Ryan started it with a big frowny face - and soon we we're all in tears. Jenn just pour out her heart to us, and we shared sweet tender moments trying to say good by till Mother's Day.  We are so grateful for the blessing the Savior has given us, and eternal families.

After spending 15 weeks in the MTC due to the floods in Thailand, our daughter FINALLY was able to leave Provo and go to Thailand. She has been in Thailand a little over a week, and we have had 'little' word from her.

SAWADII KHA!!!!!!!!

I am finally emailing from THAILAND!!!! And it honestly still feels like a dream. Every hour I kind of shake myself and im like woah im actually in Thailand??. Not only that, but im in CHIANG MAI!!!!!!! aka heaven. Literally everyone calls it "heaven" the thai's and all the missionarie. Its realllllly rare to get be a greenie here because you'll most likely be here for more than a few transfers because the new training program is way intense. Its the most coveted area (no joke) and only one set of sister missionaries are here. Ok so it’s in the northern part and the scenery is MIND blowing, so exotic and mountainous. Most beautiful place I’ve ever been to for soo many reasons.

So the mission has been kind of crazy because of the flooding. After a few days of traveling we got to Bangkok and welcomed by the mission president and wave of humidity. ha more like a brick wall. (its been kind of a blur, honestly. time zone change and living in a tropical dream land haha) that night we took care of paper work and had meetings finding out where we were going and stuff. Then we went out placed our first Book of Mormon! No more role playing haha. Left that next day at 3 AM and flew to Chiang Mai. I was welcomed by my first legit companion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and 2 other sisters, Sister Yinn and Sister King, they are temporary transferred here cuz their mission is flooded. We all live together, one big party . My companions name is Sister Sorge and is an angel. No joke, she straight up looks likes one and acts like one. I love herrrr. She’s a year so her Thai is amazing and is SO hard working. I’m really excited to work and to be trained with her, I can’t wait to see the miracles happen! Saturday was a blur, lots of biking in the insane city (there aren't really traffic laws which makes biking super sketchy and fun haha), teaching and not knowing what’s going on hahah. I’m humbled every 5 seconds when I hear someone speaks in Thai. They speak SOO fast and quiet.

Sunday was amazing, and super humbling. Not really sure what was said, but I felt the love! The love that I have for those people is indescribable. Even though I can barely understand what’s going on, the ward is AWESOME and the members so hilarious and warm and playful. Everyone hugs each other and you can just FEEL the love. They really welcomed me in even though I can’t speak much, and they call me Sister Suay which means pretty! haha it was so cute. A lot of smiling and bowing takes place. There is ALWAYS a potluck after. And not lame ones with nasty casseroles. ok, The food is seriously mind blowing. Is taste bud blowing? I’ve had the best food I’ve ever had in my life the past few days (sorry mom haha) and every meal it gets better. People don’t go grocery shopping here. There are food vendors on every corner and almost cry of happiness every meal ha. The smells here are equally amazing. I love riding bikes at night because you get whiffs of different smells on every corner and lit up lanterns hanging in the trees, and today we rode elephants. No big deal. And watched an elephant show after where they drew paintings, played basketball, soccer and danced. I’m seriously living in a dream. My time is up! I love you all! So much. People are prepared to hear the gospel here, I’ve already witnessed it

What an amazing, blurry week! Thank you all so much for you kind words and prayers, I really can feel them more than ever. The joys and craziness of missionary work in the field are hitting and I’m loving it. These people are the happiest, loving and seriously the most beautiful people I’ve ever met. I love them all so much. And miracles are happening left and right here!!! Its been kind of hectic because of the flood but that means people are flooding to Chiang Mai

Thanksgiving in Chiang Mai was really fun and pretty American actually ha the four of us sisters found this restaurant that was doing a thanksgiving special! We were the only ones there. People are coming up to Chiang Mai because there isn't flooding going on. meaning, we are one of the few missions in Thailand that are actually proselyting and teaching! I really do feel so blessed. Its been pretty tough still with the language, and trying not to feel like I’m not fulfilling my purpose as missionary (helping others come unto to Christ) when I can barely understand them. I’ve really learned to feel, and listen with spiritual ears when we're contacting or teaching. Without that I’m way lost in what’s going on. I’m surprised with how many people are READY for to hear this! The doors HAVENT been slammed in my face and people are amazed at us and want to hear what we have to say. Telling them that there IS a God and that He loves them and has a plan for them and we can talk to Him whenever we want, really is the best thing ever. and to hear them prayer for the first time, so magical. For the first time I’m experiencing the companion mind read connection thing!  (which is actually the spirit...but i still get so excited when it happens) we'll be studying and we'll both be prompted to study the same thing? Really random topics mind you, which our investigators needs. Or we'll be in a lesson and I’ll be prompted to ask a question and she'll say she was thinking of the same one?? I know this is normal for mission companions, but its really the best. The 2 other sisters left this morning (back to the Philippines where their flooding is better) and now its just the 2 of is in heaven. We now have twice as many investigators and a lot of work to get done! I’m really excited to see what happens and how Heavenly Fathers uses us to find His children.

Finished the BOM today. Can i just say how AMAZING that book is???!!! Everyone go read it. haha. Its how God talks to us, we can get that everyday!!!!

Greetings from the amazing MTC!  My departure date is on the 24^th of October! Yes, less than one month away. I can’t believe it!!  Time flies here.

This week has been constant reminders of the Savior’s love. The more I read and learn about him, the more I truly love this church. His Church! It’s a complete honor and so incredible to represent Him as a missionary. I’m bringing his message and invitation to come unto Him, to people who have never even heard His name before! That still blows my mind. This calling is huge and there is no way I could do it on my own. Even when I’m teaching investigators (my teachers who play the role of other people) I’m being guided by the spirit. I has to be.  I don’t have a companion to lean on when I don’t understand what they are saying. And I know they can understand me and feel what I’m saying, even when I know the Thai wasn’t correct. We can’t afford to not be bold. The spirit won’t offend. Ever.

People are prepared to hear this message and to know of these truths!

Dad, I really liked that you shared Scotty’s story about his testimony, and how he read Alma 30:44 and he already has seen lots of “signs” about the truthfulness of this church, and didn’t need a huge powerful moment. That’s very true for me as well. It wasn’t till recently that I really understood that. Most of the missionaries here have that one huge moment where they knew the Book of Mormon is true. To be honest I was somewhat envious (lame I know….) and it wasn’t until I read in Alma 56 about the Stripling Warriors’ that I was at peace. Verse 48 it says they do not doubt their Mothers, I, like them, always knew! They didn’t doubt their mothers & the Stripling Warriors are the ultimate example! There are great pictures/paintings of them all over the MCT. Missionaries LOVE the Stripling Warriors. Our testimonies are all unique, it’s beautiful. Really hope all of that made sense ha ..ha..

Thank you for raising me in a way that I’ve always know this is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. From a  VERY young age I’ve had a testimony of the Plan of Salvation. I was never “Mad at God” because Mom died. I’ve always  know I would see her again and be sealed forever. Thanks for instilling that testimony. I’m not here because I’m relying on Dad’s testimony – I have my own. I know this is Christ’s church and we all have a special work to do. I love learning Thai and the gospel basics, it’s so beautiful! We tend to think everything is complicated. It’s all simple! It says in Preach My Gospel that when our testimony of the Atonement grows, we naturally want to share it.

So my companion from Hong Kong (called to serve in Cambodia), doesn’t really want to be here. It’s really hard. I love her & she’s so amazing and interesting, but she is super homesick. She writes her boyfriend everyday & it’s hard. I know if she didn’t have a Solo Sister, she would have gone home by now. It’s sad when you can see that potential but they reject it. There’s only so much I can say…. Comes down to her relationship with Heavenly Father and figuring out her purpose here. Gets emotionally tiring but I know I can help her.

Have you gotten the October Ensign yet? All about the Book of Mormon? READ IT! And share it! The  Book of Mormon is the best tool to convert, second to the Holy Ghost. It rings true! Answers our deepest desires and eternal questions. I love this book.

Thank you for being the amazing parents that you are. I love your funny letters & packages. My khuus always know when I’m reading letters from you (especially from Scott) cuz I’m laughing super hard!

Greetings from the MTC! How is everyone? Life is great here. Really it truly is. My last email was somewhat emotional, but please know that I’m wonderful & loving my time here. One month from yesterday Scotty comes!!  You don’t even know how excited I am. Scott you are going to love it here! It is totally your element. I can’t wait for you to talk to my companions in Spanish (he already knows everything about you HA!). :-)

So for the past week we haven’t been able to get Dear Elders because they are changing the mailboxes. So if you had a question, sorry won’t be able to answer! 

Dad – you asked about P-days.  Tuesdays: Get up early to go to the temple, come back & study for 1 hour, print my emails & write emails back, lunch, laundry, letters, devotional, bed. It’s crazy how fast it goes. We call it P-Hours, not P-Day HA!

Mom – Know that I’m thinking about you often & how you would love all these classes about church doctrine so you could apply it to your class!

Thai is coming slowly but surely! It’s been a rough week language wise, and I’m trying my hardest to think of the people of Thailand. It’s easy to think I’m not learning much or not getting anywhere…. But I’ve come so far! Everything is still in Thai, but I basically know what’s going on the majority of the time. My teachers are all RM’s from Thailand & know what’s up. One is native of Thailand & I LOVE her. She’s way hard but amazing. Probably the nicest, cutest lady I know & if all the people of Thailand are like that I will be so happy. Yep. I will die of happiness! She gives us “culture Moments” & it tells us great things about Thailand & gets us all pumped up again. Sitting in the same class room for 10 hours a day makes us all a little crazy at times.  I feel bad for my Elders at times because I get in those crazy moods where I literally can’t stop talking, Thai or English.  

New roommates leave next week.  They’re all from Utah & pretty cool. Its amazing how different all the people are at this place but everyone gets along. Sure most companionships have had times, but people generally love each other here. We all have this missionary connection  and look out for one another. Since I’m a Solo Sister I get to meet so many new people every day. It’s really amazing to learn of the stories & reasons way the missionaries got here. I can literally see boys grow into men on a daily basis. And sisters figure out their potential. We’re told that someday there will be the same amount of sisters and elders out on missions. Can you imagine??!!

I think everyone should go on missions just to learn the basics & simple truths of the gospel. Teaching people what really matters. Oh.. wait.., we can do that EVERYDAY!  Its really incredible how much the Lord’s hand is in our lives. He loves us so much, he wants us to succeed.

First off, thank you for the awesome package. Everyone loved the gluten free cookies.

The Mormon.org project is so sweet! That’ll be such a great missionary tool for all members.

What a glorious week. As always the days are going by faster which is freaking me out because there really is soo much to learn. The older Thai district left yesterday and it hit me that I’ll actually be leaving this place one day teaching real people, speaking Thai 100%. It’ll be beyond amazing. I want the mission experience Elder Holland talks about : “My mission has meant everything to me. I think about it every day”. From Joseph Smith on, this is the time that matters to preach to every nation, tongue & people.  This is the only dispensation that won’t end in apostasy. He goes on saying we are carrying on our shoulders the end of missionary work, with 340 missions & creating more this summer. We are in it for the long haul & won’t walk away from this”.

Every day I think I might burst with information whether that’s from planning in Thai, speaking (attempting) in Thai, great devotionals, full heart of prayer, insights from scriptures, emotional roller coasters or hanging out with 19 year old Elders all day HA! Not sure if I’m physically capable of anymore growth. And with that growth I’ve realized how many weaknesses I do have! Quite the humbling experience! But I really doesn’t matter, the Lord will make up for every weakness we have! As long as we give it all we have, we have no reason to fear if we trust in Heavenly Father. 2 Nephi 4 – READ IT!

New roomies moved in last week. They’re going to Indiana & Michigan. It’s sweet cuz I’ll be meeting way more people cuz I don’t have a khuu (companion). Got called to be the coordinating Sister so I really have been helping/meeting with a bunch of Sisters. It’s been really fun! And helping them get the most out of this place. My little district of 4 is becoming more like family every day.  They call me their sister & watch out for me. It’s the best!
